Codebooks for CSDE Administrative Data

CSDE administrative data are available as a set of 12 files: two master data files containing demographics and summary variables for resident and nonresident parent, four data files providing child support information, and six data files providing information on the use of various types of public assistance or services. These files can be merged in any combination using the masked W-2 case number provided.

For each data file a codebook is provided giving an introductory list of all variables, followed by a more detailed listing that for each variable includes: variable name, variable description, administrative data set(s) from which the variable originated, variable values, and a frequency distribution or range of values. Each variable is identified as being either continuous or categorical.

To protect the privacy of research subjects, users may not view individual case values for continuous variables. Therefore frequency distributions of continuous variables should not be requested in any submitted SAS program.

Adobe Acrobat Reader, 4.0 or higher, is required for reading the codebook files. Since the two master codebooks are quite lengthy, a navigation panel is provided to assist users in moving through those codebooks to variables of interest.
